Micropatterning made easy

Cell micropatterning is defined as the fabrication and use of a culture substrate with microscopic features that impose a defined cell adhesion pattern. In 2015, we developed a new contactless and maskless micropatterning technique called light-induced molecular adsorption of proteins (LIMAP, Strale et al.; 2015) . It relies on the use of a DMD-based UV-projection system and a photoiniator in combination with a dedicated UV-sensitive surface chemistry. Altogether, this set-up allows for the local deposition of biomolecules and subsequent cell adhesion. Since 2016, Alvéole (Paris, France) commercializes an automated bioengineering platform called PRIMO together with a photoiniator PLPP. PRIMO is the result of an technological transfer of LIMAP from the CNRS to Alvéole.

We use this micropatterning technics together with advanced bioengineering and imaging approaches in order to tackle various biological and technical challenges.
